GBL update…

Filed under: Uncategorized — Al @ 4:58 pm

Had a win over Mt Crosby last night, 91-80 which guaranteed us a sopt in the finals with two games left.  Although we were only one game behind LP and Saints before last night, we weren’t far enough away from other teams to breathe easy.  Ladder as it stands right now:

Dragons 16/2

LP 12/6

Saints 12/5 (one game in hand)

Uni 11/7

SW 8/10

Crosby 8/10

+ Chumps

It may look like we had the thing wrapped up, but SW had won their last 6 straight through a combination of Bullets players and possibles.  Players included Joey Wright/ Ryhs Martin / John Fitgerald/ Justin Brown (7″2 new recruit) plus a few others pressing for spots.  The comp can breathe a little easier now that they’re done.

We have Lp next week – if we knock them off we’re a show for second and a crack at Dragons – who are looking efficient but by no means unbeatable.

For us, everyone in the team has been contributing in different ways.   Of note:

- Shaneo has been killing it of late, being extremely aggressive and scoring heavily.  He’s lost a bit of weight this year so his speed and ability to log major minutes has helped that.

- BG has found a distinguished role.  Last year he was a little lost, this year he’s playing the 4 off the bench, coming on and setting creens, working hard on the boards and playing aggressive D.  I think the key to his productivity is an accepatance of the role and an understanding of what he does well.  A noticeable shift in how the game is played from juniors to mens.

- Cam is killing it, has been a quiet leader all year.  Been reliable with the ball in his hands, he’s turned himself into a sharp jumpshooter off the dribble, which is good given the amount of screens we run for guards at the top.  As a result he’s turned himself into a bit too much of a shooter at the expense of his drive – he knows it though.  He’s been posting up smaller guards of late also which I think is wicked – he’s grown to about 6″2 now so that will be an option in the future.

- Massey has been dominant all year, both inside and occaionally out.  He’s had a few games where he’s put 30 on the likes of LP and Saints with a variety of low post moves, mid range jumpers and secondary moves, but he’s had a few where he’s tried to do too much.  In saying this, when he’s been on he’s been the MVp on the court easily.  Just a matter of consistency from here – he’s not going to the boards as hard as he could at both ends, and he should be blocking more shots than he does.   Still  only 19 says slot.

I lead the league in techs I’m fairly certain, with our bench (i.e. my Dad) a close second.  One of my goals at the start of the year was to keep quiet to the refs, but the new zero tolerance rule has taken me by suprise, with end result being my techs have been for alot less than they have in previous years.  (Anything outside a politely phrased query with a bow gets you a T)    So….    I guess I’ve sort of achieved my goals ????

Blackle – the black Google and other useless gestures.

Filed under: Society — Dave @ 4:09 pm

After recent talk on blogs over the internet about how much power the white Google home pages uses to display on a computer screen many people were calling for a black home page. As a result Heap Media Australia has launched a Google page called Blackle.

Sounds like a nice idea except for the fact that it is pretty much useless; there are power savings to be made for CRT monitors but the power difference between black and white on LCD monitors is all but negligible.

This is an example of some of the useless gestures people are making in the hope it will curb climate change. The best (worst) example of this that I can think of is Wolfmother using low wattage amps to record their lasted album; I am not having a go at people trying to change things but I don’t need or want celebrities and companies telling me how good they are with their worthless gestures and how bad I am with my wicked carbon producing ways. Top of my list for annoying celebrities is Madonna and her self indulgent words at the Live Earth concert; something along the lines of “If you wanna save the earth with me, jump up and down now!”

This is not meant to be a post to have a go a people making genuine efforts to help, but please, no more Thorpie!!

This guys 1st book was a really good read. The curious incident of the dg in the night time.

It is one of the most different books that i have read in a long time as it is written from the perspective of a kid with Autism. The aurthor manages to portray the childs way of veiwing the world exceptionally well and as a reslut left me pondering my own obervations.

Any hoo it is a really easy read, , but no pictures sorry boys. It’s not some bullshit crap about finding your personal legand or any of that shit. You might have to actually search for the meaning in this one rather then have it spoon fed to you.

Apparently his second one isn’t as good.

Supply and demand…

Filed under: WTF?! — Amon @ 10:50 pm

1.   Grab your best girlfriend
2.   Tell your parents you are going to France for the weekend
3.   Head to Ghana instead as I hear it is nice this time of year
4.   Meet a couple of likely local lads and head to the beach for sun and beers
5.   The lads happen to have a couple of empty laptop bags they need to give to a mate in London
6.   What a coincidence! We can take it for you and give to your mate
7.   Sweet! You British chicks are great
8.   Start looking dodge at Ghana airport (now that is impressive haha!)
9.   £300 000 pounds worth of coke later in two laptop bags…and the following to say in thier defense:

“We never thought anything bad was inside … and they told us to go to the UK and drop it off to some boy … at the airport.”

“It was basically like a set up. They didn’t tell us nothing, we didn’t think nothing, cos basically we are innocent. We don’t know nothing about this drugs and stuff, we don’t know nothing.”

10.  I hope this won’t affect the supply/demand ratio for my new found weekend social routine!!!

Which sl*t do you prefer??

Filed under: Eye Candy, Poth, WTF?! — Al @ 8:05 pm

Serious question: Requires shallow thinking above all else, stereotypes, impulses and fetishes are most welcome. In fact, that are fetted (?)….

One slut, one night: No strings attached. Criteria is hair colour only – kit we’ll assume as being equal throughout, or whichever you prefer. In other words, there are several birds chomping at the bit ;) , waiting for your choice. The only discernable difference is the colour of the hair, and is thus the only basis for your choice. Do you pick:

a) blonde;

b)brunette;

c)red;

d)black;

e) completely different, or combination, or whatever does it for you…….

Must tell us why this your choice also. Not looking for wife material, just a loose cannon.

I’ll kick it off: Dark red hair all the way. Can’t think of the perfect example in celebrities to compare, but dark red

Till Jonesy, Zemanek and Laws are all axed…

Filed under: Society — Amon @ 7:45 pm

I am not usually one to take any delight in the demise of others, but today marks part one of the prophesy outlined by The Herd:

“Squawkin hacks, won’t relax, until Jonesy, Zemanek and Laws are all axed…77% of Aussies are racists, if you were here, i’d say it to your faces”

Zemanek has passed away and the vile affliction of ignorance and intolerance that he spread throughout this country has ended. Zemanek stood as a symbol to facist beliefs and gave credibilty and acceptance to the close minded in this country. Now let us hope that Jones and Laws aren’t too far off and their legacy ends with them…I don’t want to imagine a future of Australians running around, dressed in ozzy flags, screaming get the fuck out of our country!

To be continued…

A difficult topic

Filed under: Politics/Economics — leigh @ 10:31 am

Howard’s recent move to send military support into the Northern Territory has been met with mixed reactions. Some are calling the move to send in the military ‘draconian’ however most appear to be supportive of a move aimed at addressing the abhorrent conditions faced by children growing up in these communities.

My old man wrote an interesting piece in the Australian Financial Review yesterday in which indicated that the policy initiatives announced by Howard were not as revolutionary as he would have us believe. John suggested that many of the initiatives were simply restatements of existing policies such as the banning of alcohol in regional camps (full text here img-7061032-00012.pdf).  My concern is that Howard is using the issue as an election platform similar to the way he exploited the ‘children over-board’ and national security to scare people into avoiding change and re-electing the incumbent government. I watched Ray Martin tell his story of a visit to the NT seven years ago and the disgraceful living conditions that he witnessed there. He apparently took this to Howard immediately after his trip but was told the issue was politically ‘too hard’ to deal with. It is only now in an election year that Howard chooses to address the issue, and even then not in a meaningful way.

Aboriginal welfare is something that concerns me quite deeply, despite some of the jokes that I make (which I hope are taken in jest). In many ways we should be ashamed of the conditions that people are living in within what we call a developed nation. It is easier for us to ignore the problem than to deal with it, which is what we have been doing for a long time.

Mate Vs Mate, Mistake Vs Mistake

Filed under: Sport — Amon @ 10:48 pm

Hellelujah! NSW finally manages to stumble over the line and get the win they should have got in the last game. Full credit to QLD for doing enough to win the series, but I just can’t give you the credit for winning it. NSW lost the series due to their own 5th tackle incompetence and the stats have been showing that all series…I lost count of the amount of bombed tries. Enjoy having it for another year, but it has been a very long time since I have seen a dominant QLD performance…
