Well I didn’t think Al would be the first but hey, stranger things have happened at sea. Well done buddy! I am expecting a full recount as it is something I have wanted to do for a while :)

In the spirit of things here is a picture of the great Mal. And who’s that in support? Shrek?

It all makes sense now!

The reason why we have all turned into drug munching fiends has been answered! It wasn’t circumstance, peer groups, opportunity or fate…it was Nintendo!

“Computer games don’t affect kids. I mean if Pac-man affected us as kids, we’d be all running around in darkened rooms, munching magic pills and listening to repetitive electronic music” – Kristian Wilson, Nintendo 1989.

I think we are yet to see the affects of Super Mario Kart, Street Fighter and Zelda. Ardooooooken!

Second Life and Virtual Rape

Filed under: Society — Dave @ 9:32 am

Imagine going for a stroll in your local, albeit virtual park in downtown NY; now imagine another person, albeit a virtual person attacking you and overpowering your second life character using scripts that they have written. They then proceed to have their wicked way with you….virtually speaking.

Apparently, this type of thing is occurring more and more in the virtual online world ‘Second Life’; so much so that in many US states people can be prosecuted for extreme online harassment and police in Belgium are investigating cases of rape in Second Life.

Here is a blog entry about it on the Freakonomics blog that talks about removing the incentive of online rape in order to stop it. One problem may be that the only real incentive for second life rape may be just the amusement of it for people who can manipulate the programming.

Personally I think that calling it rape in the true sense is going a bit far but when real money is involved in this online world then laws may be needed to protect people, their rights, their money, and their “quiet enjoyment” of Second Life.
